RESULTS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION OF THE 2010 LAFAYETTE REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR HELD
MARCH 6-7 AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY J. Ruhl
Jefferson High School students put on a great show this past weekend at the Lafayette Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at Purdue University. This science fair represents students from an eleven county area. In 14 different categories, Jeff students combined for 8 gold medals, 4 silver, 7 bronze, and 7 honorable mention, allowing Jeff to lead all schools with 65 total medal points. Jeff High School’s own Ashley Sankari was selected as one of the top two students, earning her and Mr. Ruhl an all-expenses paid trip to the International Science & Engineering Fair in San Jose in May.

Juliana Newman – gold medal in behavioral sciences
Kei Yamamoto – bronze medal in behavioral science
Briana Hinds – gold medal in cellular and molecular biology
Matt Altepeter – gold medal in chemistry
Maura Igo – gold medal in earth and planetary sciences
Hannah Fanzini – bronze medal in engineering
Herminio Garcia – silver medal in engineering; College of Science Special Recognition Award; Yale Science and Engineering special award
Noah Martel – honorable mention in engineering
Nicolas Spoentgen - gold medal in engineering; National Society of Professional Engineers special award; US Navy special award
Jessica Griggs – honorable mention in energy and transportation
Francis Grover – silver medal in energy and transportation; ASM Materials Education Foundation special award; College of Science Dean’s 2nd place Award;
US Air Force special award
Allysha Nordyke – bronze medal in energy and transportation
Andrew Simmerman – bronze medal in environmental science; American Meteorological Society special award
Daniel O’Connor – honorable mention in math and computer science
Alejandra Duran – bronze medal in math and computer science; Mu Alpha Theta special award
Meher Taleyarkhan – silver medal in math and computer science
Frank Roetker – gold medal in math and computer science; College of Science Interdisciplinary Research Award; Intel Excellence in Computer Science $200 award; US Air Force special award; US Navy special award;
Kaitlyn Steiner - bronze medal in medicine and health
